Im Veronica, owner and operator of The Daily Grind Mobile Cafe, Edmonton, Cairns, Queensland
The Daily Grind Mobile Cafe was purchased at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdowns here in Australia in April 2020.
Why do this?
Because I was made redundant from my cooking job at the mine i worked at
Because I had actually saved money and decided it was time to do my own thing.
Starting a Mobile coffee operation nearly from scratch has had its hurdles, but the rewards of meeting like minded, great coffee loving people who live and work in my community of North Queensland, Cairns area is really worth it.
What have i learned so far with my mobile operation?
It takes a while to build your business visits
Offer quality and dont be stingy, be really clean with your coffee area and machine, to keep your customers as followers
Keep your council authority happy and comply as much as possible
Take courses on coffee (local, YouTube, Pinterest), reach out to local roasters, buy quality Specialty coffee.
Business Plan
No kidding, this is the best most important advice. I did a year with a Government subsidised course called NEIS – New Enterprise Initiative Scheme. We HAD to do our business plan before being accepted. It has been a lifesaver. Knowing your goals, your costs, projections. Its a guide and also something to review every few months. New projections can then be added for future year and more. like planning for new aquisitions. New business opportunity.
One Year On
2021. I now have a regular coffee run. There is room to expand and grow business with the run. Im excitied by that. My coffee is to “die for” and im proud of that. I have purchased a caravan/trailer to expand my business, for parties, events, markets. I have started roasting coffee and blending flavours. More to Blog about.
Thanks, see you soon, enjoy your coffee….
