Bobby’s BBQ Truck is helping house the homeless one Bacon and Egg Roll at a time. With the sale of every roll, all profits go to RUAH Community Services to secure a permanent home for someone sleeping rough on the streets of Perth. Customers can also pay it forward by buying a meal for someone who can’t afford it themselves, making Bobby’s BBQ Truck top the list of unique food trucks in Perth.
During height of the Coronavirus pandemic, Pan Pacific Perth opened its doors to the city’s most vulnerable rough sleepers. It was during this time that the hotel learnt the hard truths of homelessness from people like Scruffy, Uncle Sidney and English Rob.
Our previous General Manager Rob Weeden was adamant the hotel needed to play a permanent role in ending homelessness in Western Australia. The hotel was already selling wildly popular Bacon and Egg Rolls on a pop-up barbeque on Adelaide Terrace. Rob expressed his desire to sell the rolls with profits going towards helping the homeless community on a local radio station and none other than Gary Dunkerley of Osbourne Motor Bodies was listening. Gary immediately offered to bring the dream to life with a custom-made, 50s inspired food truck, donated for the cause.
The other big component of Bobby’s story is the food. Consulting Executive Chef Alejandro Saravia and Food and Beverage Director Jeremy Burt worked closely together to craft Perth’s most delicious Bacon and Egg Rolls, complete with WA free-range eggs and 20 kilos of delicious bacon donated by Paul from McGloughin Butchers.
Why the name Bobby’s? The name was a homage to English Rob but was too similar to our previous General Manager’s name, hence Bobby, a common nickname for Robert, was chosen.
All profits go towards Ruah Community Services, who has honoured its commitment to ending homelessness in Western Australia through its involvement in the development of many programs designed to support those sleeping rough. Ruah’s highly personalised and flexible approach to providing support perfectly aligns with the unique concept of Bobby’s BBQ Truck.
The hotel is in the midst of developing training programs for RUAH-recommended candidates whom need a helping hand to re-enter the workforce. The Food Truck program, which may see candidates working in Bobby’s BBQ Truck, will give candidates the incredible opportunity to learn a variety of practical skills in a supportive environment.
